Fillmore County Veterans Service Officer opening

Fillmore County has an immediate opening for a 0.8 FTE Veteran Services Officer. This is a regular non-exempt position, eligible for benefits. The application deadline is 4:30 pm on Monday February 22, 2010.

Sixth Annual Physically Disabled Veterans Turkey Hunt

Applications will be available beginning January 11, 2010, for the Sixth Annual Physically Disabled Veterans Turkey Hunt. Sponsored by the St. Cloud VA Medical Center, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and Minnesota National Guard, Camp Ripley, this special hunt will take place April 20 - 22, 2010, at Camp Ripley in Little Falls.

The Physically Disabled Veterans Turkey Hunt is available to physically disabled veterans who receive outpatient treatment at a VA Medical Center, or veterans who are eligible for VA care and cannot hunt during the regular firearms season.

Limited space is available. To request an application, call the St. Cloud VA Medical Center Voluntary Service office at (320) 255-6394. Applications must be received by Friday, February 12, 2010.

2nd Annual "Operation: Upland Pheasant Hunt" registration opens January 5th

The Scott County Chapter of Pheasants Forever (PF) is inviting Minnesota military personnel who have returned from actively serving abroad within the past two years to participate in their 2nd Annual "Operation: Upland Pheasant Hunt." Up to 50 veterans will receive an all-expense-paid morning of pheasant hunting, lunch and an afternoon of sporting clays at the Caribou Gun Club and Hunting Preserve in Le Sueur on Saturday, March 27th.

The Veterans Career Fair is a free event open to all Veterans. It is being held on May 5, 2010 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Earle Brown Heritage Center, Brooklyn Center, MN.

Minneapolis VA Medical Center Medical Foster Home Program

The Minneapolis VA Medical Center is pleased to announce the development of the Medical Foster Home Program to reach the growing needs of the veteran population.

The program offers a safe, long-term, home-like environment and an economical housing alternative for veterans who are unable to remain in their own homes because of health issues.

Hunger Solutions Minnesota launches toll-free Minnesota Food Helpline

In response to the increasing need for food assistance in our communities, Hunger Solutions Minnesota (HSM) has launched the Minnesota Food Helpline, a statewide toll-free number that provides information and resources to Minnesotans at risk of hunger and those that serve them.

One way to help meet the demand for food in our communities is by assisting people struggling with hunger and poverty in the eligibility and application process for public program benefits including Food Support (formerly Food Stamps).

The toll-free number is (888) 711-1151.

Minnesota Service C.O.R.E. is a new, nation-leading program designed to bring essential, community-based services directly to veterans, military members and their families across Minnesota at no cost to them. Due to its unique structure, this program will also provide resources to previously underserved rural areas around the state.

LinkVet

The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) offers the LinkVet call center provided by trained staff. During business hours, MDVA staff will provide information on veterans’ benefits, healthcare, education, and reintegration. The line will roll to Crisis Connection counselors for 24-hour, seven days a week coverage (including holidays) for immediate crisis intervention and psychological counseling.

Minnesota Veterans 4 Veterans (V4V) Trust Fund

A trust fund called "MN Veterans 4 Veterans Trust Fund" has been established. The goal of the trust fund is to help Minnesota Veterans integrate into society and lead healthier, independent lives by funding recreational, employment, health, education and social programs for veterans, their families and caregivers. Applications for grants are now being accepted.
