MDVA Grants to Counties program - Fiscal Year 2009

For the current year CVSO Grant information, go to www.mdva.state.mn.us/CVSOGrant/

The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs will open the Fiscal Year 2009 Enhancement Grant cycle on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 with a closing date of Wednesday, October 15, 2008.

As you read through the grant process explanation, please make note of the policy changes and timelines for this cycle as they are different from previous years. As a brief summary, this year the department added four programmatic goals under which you may apply, established best practices guidelines, and added the requirement of measurable outcomes.

The two programmatic goals we want to bring to your attention are outreach and marketing/advertising. In the previous grant cycles, MDVA allowed a marketing/advertising campaign to be included under the umbrella of outreach. This is no longer acceptable under the outreach programmatic goal. The outreach programmatic goal is for your office to reach the underserved veterans of your community. Examples of outreach would be visiting veterans in local nursing homes, satellite county offices, veterans’ benefits fairs, job fairs/resume building workshops, etc. Examples of marketing/advertising may include brochures, pamphlets, newspaper inserts, billboards, etc. When submitting your grant application for advertising/marketing, be aware that ALL MARKETING AND ADVERTISING EFFORTS MUST INCLUDE LINKVET (see sample billboard from Carlton and St. Louis County).

Another change from previous years, applications need not be returned by certified mail. Standard mail, fax or e‐mail is acceptable. Upon the receipt of your application, you will receive verification via e‐mail from us.

Grant materials:

As a reminder, the Enhancement Grant is open to all County Veteran Service Offices and the Minnesota Association of he monies available for this grant cycle are $1.45 million.

We look forward to your proposals.
